Selling in chat

Advise and close in the conversation, without made-up promises

Many purchases fall through because of one unanswered question. The chatbot answers it straight away from your price lists and terms. Then it leads to the next step: the buy button, an appointment or a person from your team.

  • Answers from your price lists and terms
  • No invented discounts or delivery dates
  • Appointment, call back or live chat as the next step

Coworking space website, Thursday, 6:47 pm

Bright meeting room with a wooden table in a coworking space
The situation

The one question before the decision

Thursday, 6:45 pm. A founder is comparing the plans of a coworking space. The Flex plan would suit her, but she has client meetings twice a month. Is the meeting room included, or does it cost extra? There's a footnote about it on the pricing page that she doesn't quite understand.

At this time of day, nobody is at reception. So she moves on to the next provider, where things look clearer.

In the chat she'd have had the answer in ten seconds, from exactly the price list that contains the footnote. And right after that, the offer to come and see the space on Saturday.

In detail

What you get

Answering buying questions while the interest is there

What people ask just before buying is usually very specific. What exactly is included in the plan? Is there a minimum term? How long does delivery take? The bot answers these questions from your service descriptions, price lists and terms, exactly as you've provided them.

It also explains the small print in plain sentences. A footnote that confuses on the pricing page becomes, in the chat, a clear answer to exactly the question that was asked. And in the prospect's own language, too.

  • Scope of services and plan differences
  • Terms and conditions
  • Delivery times, where provided
  • Answers in the customer's language

No promises that aren't written down

In sales, a wrong promise costs more than no answer. That's why the bot only quotes prices, discounts and delivery times that are in your documents. If someone asks for a discount that doesn't exist, it says so. It can't negotiate, and it isn't supposed to.

For this to work, your documents need to be right. If an old price list is still in the uploads, the bot will quote old prices. So have website sources re-crawled regularly. For questions where every word matters, such as contract terms, add a question-and-answer pair.

The next step towards the sale

Once the question is answered, the bot moves things on. In online shops running Shopware or Shopify, it shows matching products as cards with image, price and buy button. The customer buys right where they asked.

For services, the next step is usually a conversation. The bot offers an appointment from your calendar, via Calendly, Google Calendar or Outlook. Or it takes the details for a call back. If someone from your team is available, it hands over in live chat. The deal itself is then closed by a person.

  • Product cards with buy button in Shopware and Shopify
  • Appointment booking in the chat
  • Call back with validated contact details
  • Handover to your team in live chat

Learning from the conversations

Every sales conversation in the chat shows what a decision hinges on. The analytics show the most frequent questions and the ones the bot couldn't answer. If ten people ask about the meeting room in one week, the answer belongs on the pricing page, not in a footnote.

On top of that there's lead tracking and conversion rate. Advanced analytics with conversation histories come with the Professional plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often about this topic.

Can the bot actually sell anything itself?

In Shopware and Shopify shops, it shows products with a buy button, and the purchase then happens in the shop. It doesn't close contracts or individual offers. For those, it leads to an appointment, a call back or your team.

What does the bot say when someone asks for a discount?

Whatever your documents say. If there's no discount, it says so. It doesn't invent reductions and it doesn't negotiate.

How do we make sure prices are up to date?

Have your pricing page re-crawled automatically, daily, weekly or monthly from the Basic plan. Replace uploaded price lists yourself as soon as there's a new version. With Shopware or Shopify, the bot searches the live catalogue.

Doesn't a sales bot come across as pushy?

Not if it answers questions rather than advertising unprompted. You decide what the speech bubble says and how it greets people. Anyone who doesn't want to ask anything simply leaves the window closed.

Can we see which conversations led to a sale?

The analytics show lead tracking and conversion rate as well as the most frequent questions. Conversation histories in the advanced analytics are available from the Professional plan.
